Threads of Change
Our Story
A Little About Us
Hello and welcome to Threads for Change, a sustainable community interested in spreading awareness and discussing all things eco-friendly fashions! We created this blog as an outlet for our own insight into sustainable fashion, while also being somewhere others can connect and learn about environmentally conscious clothing alternatives, the latest sustainable news, and the history behind clothing consumerism. Both of us run our own respective clubs at our schools in Los Angeles and Virginia and connected through our shared interested in this topic.

Avery Greenburg
Avery Greenburg is the founder and leader of "Eco-Friendly Fashion," a club dedicated to building a community for people interested in sustainable fashion at her school. Eco-Friendly Fashion mainly focuses on raising awareness through school-wide events and teaching mini-lessons on sewing, mending, and upcycling. The club has partnered with organizations such as Safe Place for Youth, donating clothing to unhoused youth. Avery is also a Co-President of "Students for Sustainability", which is the environment activism on campus. Avery became passionate about sustainable fashion as she entered high school and felt the pressures to keep up with current fashion trends and participate in fast fashion consumption to "fit in." She hopes that her clubs and this blog can help other teenagers deconstruct their ideas of fashion to a more environmentally friendly alternative and positive mindset.
Cooper Schirmeier
Cooper is the founder of “The Sustainable Fashion Club” at the Potomac School in McLean, VA. The club aims to educate the Potomac School community on the harms of fast fashion. It’s partnered with The Clothesline, an Arlington-based organization providing clothing to unders. Some key initiatives include hosting general clothing drives in partnership with the Potomac administration and community partners, as well as swaps in which students and teachers may donate clothing and, in return, "swap" for other donated items. Cooper's interest in sustainability began with his interest in fashion and growing awareness of the prevalence of unsustainable consumption habits within the fashion industry. He hopes Threads of Change will shed further light on the issue and inspire others to join in collective action to promote sustainability.
